Adjacent Animosity.
When I first started this piece of work I intended it to be about conflict and resolution and how there is a poetic form within them when they are juxtaposed - this idea transcended as it became the basis for my final iteration. The idea is based deeply on my personal experiences through my life and the pain and frustration my family have caused me. The final three panels titled 'Adjacent Animosity' explore, as mentioned before, my personal struggle with the fights that take place in my extended family, as further, how my immediate family are my escape from the drama, my own personal resolution.
The decision to paint upon wallpaper was determined through extensive class discussion, and through my personal view that conflict within a family can quickly change based on the environment and experiences within such - much like the wallpaper that is within many homes. I chose to do three different sized panels as to not only distort the height but to represent the process of a gradual build-up of frustration that can take place when words are left hanging and not talked about thoroughly. Adding to this and the importance of a cooling off period after a fight, I implemented white spaces at the top and bottom of each of the panels to connote a sense of breathing room, this through negative space, allowing the connotations of grievance and irritation to speak for themselves. Keeping with this idea of frustration and conflict, I used gritty, dark colours of red, orange, brown and yellow to simulate this discord; further enhancing this through elements of layering and texture of the thick paint. I created a juxtaposition through the tonal shift and forced connection of the splashed blue present through each of the panels, thus, creating a sense of complementation.

In terms of the exhibition of the series of panels, I envisage them hanging from the ceiling, butted up against the wall, as if it were stuck to the wall, to show their full height and the overwhelming nature that their height can hold. Furthermore, making it an eye-catcher as it will as tall as the room it is exhibited in, allowing for all to see it immediately and automatically experience my personal sense of conflict and resolution.
